Recent studies on Yoga and Meditation prove that both these two have an enormous capacity to improve your memory, and also can reduce Alzheimer’s risk. The research was held in New York with 25 participants. A three-month course of kirtan kriya and Kundalini yoga helped to reduce the cognitive and emotional problems. It is considered as these two are the prime factors which lead to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Chanting, hand movements and visualization of light are the key factors in the course of Kirtan Kriya. India has an experience of over hundred years in Kirtan Kriya. The study was conducted by Helen Lavretsky, professor at University of California and his group. He says that even though memory training and yoga have similarities, yoga provides a broader benefit than memory training because yoga makes its effect with mood, anxiety and coping skills. All participants were over the age of 55 and their changes measured both in behavior and in brain activity. Out of the participants, 11 received a memory enhancement training and the rest 14 took yoga practices. It is found that the latter had better improvements than the other. These findings were published in the American Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
