Itanagar; Arunachal Pradesh: Today, on 22nd April, the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh seen massive landslide triggered by incessant rains, due to which the labour camp in the district hit and at least 18 labourers were killed and number of other are still missing.
It was seen that this incident occurred at 3 AM, today, while there were around seventeen labourers engaged in the construction works which were inside the camp at a place around four kilometres away from the Tawang Town. The facts were clarified by Lod Gambo- the additional deputy commissioner ( headquarters ).
Moreover, the additional deputy commissioner also confirmed saying that “so far nine bodies have been extricated from the debris.” Also he said that incessant rain for the past couple of days had resulted in the landslides in the several places of the border district.
Moreover, in the locality, as per the additional deputy commissioner, the rescue operation was on and two JCBs were also seen pressed into the service to clear the debris. It was also seen in the locality that the PWD road which comes between the New Lebrang and Government higher Secondary School is also seen blocked due to landslide. Also, the instances of collapsing of the residential buildings were also reported from the concerned area.
It was seen, on the one hand there is major water crisis in India, especially in Maharashtra, however, the places in Arunachal Pradesh were facing heavy rainfall in the past few days in the district resulted in a flood- like situation which severely damaged the Kitpi Ph- I and Ph- II hydel projects.
Also, as per the officials from the Power Department the restoration work could not be started due to the continuous rain and also both the power stations were shut down due to the damage. Thus, there is a major power cut issue also in presence.
Also, DC Duly Kamduk who while taking serious note of the situation, directed that department concerned for assessment and submission of detailed report for action. Thus, now situation is little strange in the area.
